Mission execution comprises launches, flights and landings. Operators should complete these steps for each mission/flight:
- Power up the UAV, listen for all audible signals.
- Upload the flight plan.
- Conduct pre-launch checks (these are vendor specific, e.g. check Pitot tube).
- Launch PLACE Aerial. Once airborne the PIC must constantly track the UAV’s progress, no interruptions are allowed.
- Wait for landing (anywhere from 50 to 90 minutes).
- When UAV has come to a complete stop download images from SD cards/USB sticks, GNSS readings and any log files (note for some UAVs you may be required to power down first, check the user manual).
- Power down the UAV.
- Change batteries.
- Repeat from step 1 for the next mission/flight.
End of day activities
At the end of the day:
- Disassemble and clean the UAV, pack away all field equipment.
- Download GNSS data from the base station, power down and pack away.
- Return equipment to the office, secure equipment and charge batteries.
You are now ready to begin computations.
