Operator Training

PLACE delivers an in-person training program entitled “Unmanned fixed wing aerial image acquisition using PLACE Aerial” covering safe UAV operations.

Operators are required to complete this course which typically covers the following topics:

1. Operational principles.
2. UAV assembly and setup.
3. Geodetic network connection.
4. Mission planning.
5. Launches, flights and landings.
6. Image download and processing.

Training comprises classroom/theoretical (e.g. flight planning) as well as practical activities (launches and landings). As part of the training operators conduct UAV operations under supervision. While not required, assuming operators continue to conduct flights, remedial training can be provided.
